Aliens Are Finally Ready To Make An Appearance And The Governments Plan is, Well... Pretty Lame

Aliens Are (Maybe) Finally Knocking. The Pentagon's Plan Is Underwhelming.

Paul Gilster, who blogs about deep space exploration and other interstellar issues, broke the news on his blog that in May 2015, a team of Russian scientists had detected an interesting signal coming from a star system about 95 light-years from Earth. Gilster was very measured in his report, noting that "no one is claiming that this is the work of an extraterrestrial civilization, but it is certainly worth further study." The researchers involved believe the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) Institute, a nonprofit organization that's looking for life in the universe and has the equipment to scan the skies for signals from deep space, might follow up on the lead.
But that didn't stop others from going wild, most notably the New York Observer, which published an attention-grabbing story Monday titled "Not a Drill: SETI Is Investigating a Possible Extraterrestrial Signal From Deep Space."
SETI is, in fact, scanning for the signal, according to Seth Shostak, a senior astronomer at the organization, who discussed the matter in a blog post available on the group's website. "Could it be another society sending a signal our way?" he wrote. "Of course, that's possible. However, there are many other plausible explanations for this claimed transmission—including terrestrial interference. Without a confirmation of this signal, we can only say that it's 'interesting.'"
UFOs, extraterrestrials, and life in outer space has gained new currency over the last year or so. Last fall, a team from Yale University announced they had found a star that gave off such unique light patterns that some speculated it was being orbited by an alien megastructure. Hillary Clinton and her campaign chairman, John Podesta, have both repeatedly discussed the need for the release of information about US government research into extraterrestrials. (You can read more about Clinton's history with the UFO issue that goes back more than 20 years here.) A week ago, scientists announced they had found a potentially life-supporting, Earthlike planet just 4.5 light-years away, within Earth's closest celestial star system neighbor.
This whole thing got us thinking: What would happen if extraterrestrials not only reached out to communicate but showed up on our doorstep? Is there a plan?
Mother Jones put this question to the Department of Defense last fall when they profiled Stephen Bassett, the only registered lobbyist in Washington whose major focus is to force the US government to reveal what it knows about extraterrestrials contact with the human race. To people like Bassett, the question of what to do when they show up is moot because it has already happened; the people who need to deal with it already are.
The Department of Defense does not agree. Here's the answer I got from them: "The [Department of Defense] does not maintain plans for hypothetical dangers for which we have absolutely no information—either to the likelihood of the danger, or to what form the danger would take." For what it's worth, the DoD spokesman also said the department doesn't have an office or organization that handles "issues related to UFOs and/or extraterrestrials," and the DoD has never interacted with or recovered any kind of material related to extraterrestrials.
"Whatever it is would be so far beyond us it would look and appear magical or spiritual, totally beyond our ability to cope with or resist if hostile. If such an event occurred we'd simply have to muddle through as best we could."
Do we really not have any plans in place should we be contacted by an alien race? I checked the DoD's answer with Christopher Mellon. A former deputy assistant secretary of defense for intelligence and staff director of the Senate Intelligence Committee, among other roles, he said, "I think you got an honest answer from DoD. How would you plan for the arrival of an advanced civilization without any understanding whatsoever of their capabilities, technology or intentions?" He added that his sense was that the government had "little if any idea" of what we'd be up against and "whatever it is would be so far beyond us it would look and appear magical or spiritual, totally beyond our ability to cope with or resist if hostile. If such an event occurred we'd simply have to muddle through as best we could."
"Meanwhile," he says, "DoD has an overflowing plate already and I suspect the Joint Staff has little patience for such seemingly unlikely, open-ended and ill-defined scenarios."
Nick Pope, a former official with the British Ministry of Defense whose job it was to investigate UFO sightings, doesn't think powerful governments should get off that easy. He told me Tuesday he's long advocated some sort of contingency plan but never saw any evidence that the British or US governments had one. When he asked colleagues in the intelligence and military world about plans, "there was no real enthusiasm for it. It was a combination of skepticism and almost this feeling that this was the ultimate taboo, that something like this could just not be put down on paper."
Pope said news about a potential signal from another civilization should trigger a whole series of thorny questions: Is this just a signal letting us know they're there, or is there information encoded within it? If there is information in it, can we decode it? Should we? If we could, should that information be disclosed? Who should control the information in the signal, if there's anything there?
That's a far cry from a scenario that finds us dealing with an extraterrestrial craft in orbit around Earth or actually landing. "The No. 1 priority would obviously be avoiding getting in a fight with these people," he said. But what do we do then? Who's in charge? Who speaks for planet Earth? What is the message?
Pope admits that the possibility of this scenario playing out is minuscule, describing it as "the ultimate low probability, high impact scenario." But, he said, "We don't need to go into Star Trek territory to say it's possible we could be visited. That being the case, it just seems prudent to have a plan."

One Man's Effort To Bring About UFO and Alien Disclosure

Retired doctor tries to educate people on existence of alien life

Dr. Richard Oconnor

O'Connor is a retired doctor who left St. Peter's Hospital in Helena in July after 28 years as an anesthesiologist.

When his other medical experience is added in, he's been working in operating rooms for more than 30 years.

Seated in the living room of his home with its view of timbered and snowy mountains, he said, "I'm one of the people that believe our world is being visited.

"For me there's no single piece of evidence that leads me to that conclusion."

Instead, it is the preponderous amount of evidence on the subject, he said, that supports his conclusion.

The testimony of government officials, those in the military as well as the sightings by pilots and ordinary people, he explained, all point to a "first contact" being underway — something that's been happening for decades and even centuries before these more recent encounters.

"Who has the motive to lie about this?" he asked.

For him the answer to who is withholding the truth is obvious: those in the military and who hold the political reins, as aliens have far greater power as evidenced by their ability to travel great distances to reach Earth.

Intricate designs carved overnight into crop fields are other evidence of such contacts, O'Connor said.

These designs that come in all shapes, he added, "They're trying to tell us something."

Several websites are devoted to explaining and pondering crop circles and one decodes the binary code employed in one that reportedly says, "Beware the bearers of false gifts and their broken promises. Much pain, but still time. Believe there is good out there. We oppose deception. Conduit closing. 0x07"

The closing sequence of numbers, 0x07, is said by the website to produce the tone of a typewriter bell.

Livestock mutilations in farm and ranch fields are also among what leads O'Connor to conclude otherworldly life forms are slowly revealing their presence as they watch and interact with Earth's inhabitants.

At one time he had set up a radio dish in his yard pointing toward the sky directly overhead. A computer with an open email program was attached to the dish in hopes of enticing a message.

"But it just did not happen," he said.

More than two years ago, he posted an Internet message inviting alien space ships to reveal themselves by flying by his cameras. A computer program helped him scan the roughly 270,000 photographs he had acquired by November from those cameras.

Late last year he was startled by what he thought he saw among those photographs.

"On November the 4th, I thought I had found it," he said.

"It certainly fit a lot of descriptions people have given about their own sightings," he said.

A link to an incident

O'Connor, 60, is tall with blue eyes behind gold-rimmed glasses. His brown hair is pulled into a pony tail.

Although he's soft-spoken, an emotional intensity surfaces when he talks about the threat nuclear weapons pose to the planet and the attention they've drawn from aliens.

"I think when nuclear weapons entered the picture, UFO activity on this planet really picked up," he said and explained that Earth's civilization can't be the first to discover the power within an atom nor will be the first to vanish because of it.

O'Connor's interest in UFOs spans decades, yet a single event, meeting Dr. Jesse A. Marcel Jr., who practiced medicine with him at St. Peter's Hospital, helped cement his belief.

Marcel told O'Connor had seen some of the July 1947 crash debris from the desert northwest of Roswell, New Mexico.

O'Connor and Marcel worked together as colleagues. They were friends too, and, "His story was always the same," O'Connor said.

"I came to the conclusion 30 years ago that this man was not a liar," he added. "He was a very responsible person."

Marcel's father, who was also Jesse A. Marcel, was the chief intelligence officer with the 509th Bombardment Group and was among the military personnel who responded to the Roswell crash site, O'Connor said.

Marcel's father brought home some of the crash debris to show his family. His son, who was 11 years old at the time, never forgot what he saw and described the thin metal I-beam parts with their peculiar purple markings, O'Connor said.

According to the Roswell UFO Museum website, the crash was reported by rancher W.W. "Mack" Brazel, who with the son of another family rode to check on sheep after a fierce thunderstorm the previous night.

Brazel noticed metal debris and saw a shallow trench several hundred feet long carved into the land.

The rancher recovered several large pieces of the debris and took them home with him. He then showed them to the family of the man that had ridden with him.

Brazel then reported his discovery to the county sheriff who reported it to Maj. Marcel at the Roswell Army Air Field. The debris site was closed while the wreckage was recovered.

"I didn't know what we were picking up," the museum website reads as Marcel's comments regarding the debris. "I still don't know what it was … It could not have been part of an aircraft, not part of any kind of weather balloon or experimental balloon … I've seen rockets … sent up at the White Sands Testing Grounds. It definitely was not part of an aircraft or missile or rocket."

Bodies were also reported to have been recovered from the wreckage, according to the website.

A news release from the Roswell Army Air Base was printed by the local newspaper and broadcast by radio stations that the "wreckage of a crashed disk had been recovered."

A weather balloon was substituted for the wreckage during a subsequent evaluation at what was then Fort Worth Army Air Field, the website explained, and the wreckage was now that of the balloon.

"(It) was a cover story. The whole balloon part of it. That was the part of the story we were told to give to the public and news, and that was it," the website quoted Brig. Gen. Thomas DuBose, chief of staff of the 8th Air Force, as having said.

"As far as I'm concerned, the Roswell event was a UFO that crashed in the desert," O'Connor said. "And our military recovered it, and then they covered it up.

"I think that's been a huge disservice to humanity, in my opinion."

Jesse A. Marcel Library

Jesse A. Marcel Library (JAMAL)

"There's been a concerted effort to cover all this up," O'Connor said. "At some point in the future, that's got to stop."

A Freedom of Information Act request was made to the Department of the Air Force, headquarters 341st missile wing, at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls regarding sightings of unidentified flying objects over Montana since 1999.

"Manual and computer searches were conducted and we have no records responsive to your request and we are not aware of any other records systems which are likely to produce any responsive records," stated the Feb. 19 response.

"That's unfortunate," O'Connor said. "I guarantee you that's not true."

O'Connor sees withholding of information as hindering the scientific and social evolution of the world and called for funding for study and evaluation.

For more than 60 years people have been convinced that contact by aliens is not real, O'Connor said, explaining that daily life with jobs and families leaves little time for people to consider the issue in depth.

"Trying to sort out what's fact and what's fiction is not a simple process," he added.

To help people learn about these first contacts, O'Connor opened the Jesse A. Marcel Library in March 2012. It's named for the elder Marcel and located in a building near his home.

On Tuesday nights between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. when it's open, presentations and discussions are held for the typical 10 to 20 people who come.

Perhaps 150 have come when the museum's open on most Tuesday nights. Some were there to learn. Others came to share stories.

The museum's website is found at jamal.org and O'Connor can be reached at richard@cropcirclesresearchfoundation.org.

"I think this is so important, I want to take every opportunity I can to educate people about it," he said.

O'Connor said he asked Marcel, who died about a year and a half after the museum's opening, how the elder Marcel would have reacted at having the museum named after him. Marcel said his father would have been honored.

"For me, this has evolved beyond the realm of belief," O'Connor said.

People who look will find enough good and credible information, he explained, that will transition into "something they will know to be pretty much true."

Risking ridicule

Ridicule has helped to keep people from talking about what they have seen and experienced, O'Connor said.

"We don't want to be labeled as the kook down the block that believes in little green men."

Yet this is the risk he takes and explained he's had the time to look at the evidence that supports his beliefs.

And had he not known and worked with Marcel at St. Peter's Hospital, he too might be among those who express disbelief, he said.

If people from Earth were to find a planet where life existed, it would make sense to hold off from barging in and instead first watch and study life on that world, O'Connor said.

Earth, he said, may be "the most profound reality show that an intelligent being can observe."

Aliens watching this planet may be studying us to learn from our actions, he said, but he's quick to add that this is all speculation. There's no way anyone can know.

"But these all seem to be plausible explanations, of course, given that they're here," he said.

O'Connor, who created an Internal Revenue Service recognized non-profit organization for his research, said he's spent several tens of thousands of dollars on what he's doing to foster awareness of alien contacts.

"I want to help people get up to speed on this and understand," he said.

And, still, the quest continues to document an encounter, even if it's a fleeting image captured as a result of a response to his email invitation to fly past his cameras.

"I was just sort of hopeful that they would see it," he said. "It seems reasonable to me that they would be able to do that."

"It would be remarkable if it did happen," he said and added, "But so far it hasn't happened yet.

"I'm just interested in finding out the truth about this," O'Connor said.

Man Makes Novel Approach To Contact Extraterrestrials

California Man Attempts to Contact Aliens With Massive Art in His Backyard

A 77-year-old man in Romoland, California, said he and his family have created a massive alien face in his backyard "in hopes of inviting aliens" to his home.

Work on the 60-foot-by-90-foot "rock garden" started this past Monday and was finished by Thursday afternoon, according to Larry Decker, who said he's been fascinated by the idea of extraterrestrials nearly his whole life.

"Aliens watch everything we do," Decker told ABC News today. "My idea was to build this thing big enough to be seen from up there, and hopefully, they'll decide to come down and check it out."

"Wouldn't it be nice to go to the porch swing and have a nice chat?" Decker said. "So hopefully this face will trick them to come, so we can shake hands and talk."

The Plejaren's, Nordic White Aliens - Billy Meier and Extraterrestrial Contact

Billy Meier UFO Case
The Plejaren, Nordic Aliens

The Billy Meier case is one of the oldest and most controversial cases on record. They are so many aspects of this case it is extremely hard to sort out fact from fiction. I present this case to you in an effort to provide information and detail on some of the best documented cases on record. I have provided some video information as well as links to Meier's famous photographs. It is up to each person to decide on how they feel about the "famous Billy Meier Case". "Billy" Eduard Albert Meier (February 3, 1937) is a citizen of Switzerland who claims to be a UFO

Contactee and prophet. He is also the source of many controversial UFO photographs, which he states are evidence of his encounters. Meier reports regular contact with extraterrestrials who impart spiritual and philosophical wisdom. He describes the Plejaren (aliens from the Pleiades) as humanoid Nordic aliens.

Background

India,  1964

A farmer born in the town of Bulach in the Swiss Lowlands, Eduard "Billy" Meier's claimed his first extraterrestrial contacts occurred in 1942 at the age of five with an elderly extraterrestrial human man named Sfath. Contacts with Sfath lasted until 1953. From 1953 to 1964, Meier's contacts continued with an extraterrestrial human woman named Asket. Meier says that after an eleven year break, contacts resumed again (beginning on January 28, 1975) with an extraterrestrial human woman named Semjase the granddaughter of Sfath.

In his teens, Meier joined the French Foreign Legion but says he soon left and returned home. He traveled extensively around the world pursuing spiritual exploration, covering some forty-two countries over twelve years. In 1965 he lost his left arm in a bus accident in Turkey. In 1966 he met and married a Greek woman, Kalliope, with whom he has three children. The nickname "Billy" came by way of an American friend who thought Meier's cowboy style of dress reminded her of "Billy the Kid". This anecdote was told by Meier himself in an interview with Bob Zanotti of Swiss Radio International in June, 1982.

Meier has accumulated a large collection of controversial photographs showing alleged spaceships (called beamships) as well as alleged extraterrestrials (humanoids called the Plejaren). Meier says that the Plejaren gave him permission to photograph and film their beamships in order to produce some of the evidence for extraterrestrial visitation. Meier's claims are disputed by UFO skeptics as well as some UFO enthusiasts.

Many Meier proponents and believers exist among UFO enthusiasts, and his evidence has seen increased exposure through the efforts of an American representative, Michael Horn, who has appeared on popular late-night paranormal programs such as Coast to Coast AM.

Contact

Beginning in 1975, Meier says he began his official contacts ("official" in that evidence was to be provided publicly, unlike earlier contacts), communicating both directly (face-to-face) and by telepathy with a core group of the Pleiadians/Plejaren, or Errans as he also refers to them (Erra being their home planet), who gave their names as "Ptaah", "Semjase", "Quetzal" and "Pleja", among numerous others. According to Meier himself in the video documentary 'Contact', he says that his first contact with extraterrestrials began on January 28, 1975.

These visitors reportedly hail from the Plejares star system which is beyond the Pleiades and in a dimension that is a fraction of a second in the future from our own (an alternate time line). These Plejaren have allegedly afforded Meier a more interesting sampling of evidence than that derived from most such encounters, including highly detailed photography, videos, multi-toned sound recordings, the temporary use of a weapon which he employed for trial on a nearby tree, and metal alloy samples.

Meier claimed the visitors charged him with certain informational and consciousness-raising tasks. As he undertook this mission, he met with a great deal of scorn and derision in addition to (according to his center) twenty-one assassination attempts. Some of these were allegedly initiated by hostile extraterrestrial entities and subsequently defeated largely through the intervention of his Plejaren friends. Meier was uncomfortable with the megalomaniacal associations some would attach to his role as a representative (such as use of the term "prophet", e.g.) but he undertook the effort nonetheless.

In 1975 Meier established the Freie Interessengemeinschaft für Grenz- und Geisteswissenschaften und Ufologiestudien ("Free Community of Interests for the Fringe and Spiritual Sciences and UFOlogical Studies") , or FIGU, a non-profit organization for the benefit of researchers into this field, and headquartered it at the Semjase Silver Star Center.

Topics
Meier claims that he was instructed to transcribe his conversations with the various extraterrestrials, some of which have been published in the German language. These books are referred to as the Contact Notes (or Contact Reports). Currently, there are ten published volumes of the Contact Reports (titled Plejadisch-Plejarische Kontaktberichte). Some of theContact Reports were translated into English, extensively edited, cleaned up and published in the out-of-print four-volume set Message From The Pleiades by Meier case investigator Wendelle Stevens.

Meier's discussions with the Plejarens are highly detailed and wide-ranging, dealing with subjects ranging from spirituality and the afterlife to the dangers of mainstream religions, human history, science and astronomical phenomena, ecology and enviromental dangers, in addition to prophecies of future historic trends and events.

An additional aspect of the Meier case is the highly controversial book the Talmud Jmmanuel. It is said to be the translation of ancient Aramaic scrolls that were discovered by Meier and a colleague in Jerusalem in 1963. The book claims to be the original teachings and life events of the man named Jmmanuel. Extensive study has been made of the book by James Deardorff.

Criticism and controversy

The photographs and films

Some of the most important evidence for Meier's claims come from his large collection of controversial photographs (for a link to the images click here). These include images of alleged spacecraft in the Swiss countryside, the Apollo-Soyuz 1975 docking and distant astronomical phenomena. Supporters insist that the images are exceptionally high quality and that a one-armed man could not possibly have fabricated them.

In 1978, the pictures and Meier himself were the subject of 6 years of onsite investigation by Retired Lt Col Wendelle Stevens and an American team assembled specifically for the purpose of determining whether trickery was involved. Stephens himself thought the case was genuine but his findings were largely ignored by the UFO community because of his refusal to hand over any of the evidence because of fear of tampering or theft.

video

Critics such as Stanton Friedman and Jacques Vallee believe them to be fakes. Some critics have provided examples of similar faked photos and have pointed out that some of his photos are taken from science fiction books, paintings and television programs. Meier claims that these photos were altered by intelligence agencies and slipped into his collection in order to discredit his UFO testimony. Other allegations include focus and light-direction problems consistent with cut-and-paste and model techniques.

Some of the most convincing recreations of Meier's images were created by photographic effects specialist and stop-motion animator Alan Friswell, for the June, 2005 issue of Fortean Times magazine. Friswell had employed techniques used in the pre-digital age of film special effects, as modern processes would, in Friswell's opinion, have been "unsporting". Using 'old fashioned' tricks, such as foreground miniatures and photographic cutouts, Friswell crafted believable copies of Meier's UFOs, but claimed that his pictures did not in any way confirm that Meier was a hoaxer, as without personal experience of the events, he had no right to draw conclusive opinions one way or the other.

Meier's relationship with his wife Kalliope ended bitterly and in 1997 Kalliope stated in an interview that the UFO in the photos looked like models that Meier had made himself with items like trash can lids, carpet tacks and other household objects, and that the stories he told of his adventures with the aliens had been entirely fictitious. She agreed when asked by an interviewer that the infamous "wedding-cake" ufo looked the lid to a trash barrel. She has also claimed that one of the pictures taken of an "extraterrestrial female" was actually an acquaintaince covered in tanning foil, however Kalliope had previously signed a sworn statement stating that Meier's contacts were genuine and to having witnessed events herself so her testimony is at best unreliable. Also, photos claimed to be Asket and Nera was actually two The Golddiggers dancer-Michelle DellaFave and Susan Lund, though Meier claims that these photographs were part of a batch that had been tampered with.

Now there is new evidence because Michelle DellaFave has confirmed that pictures of her were illegally used by Billy Meier to support his claims of having been visited by female Extraterrestrials.

The metal samples

Marcel Vogel, the chemist who created the magnetic coating for computer hard disks, and researched the energetic properties of quartz crystals for IBM, examined samples of the metal provided by Meier with a scanning electron microscope. In 1979, Meier sent Vogel crystal and metal samples Meier claimed to have received from the Plejarens. Vogel reported, "When I touched the oxide with a stainless steel probe, red streaks appeared and the oxide coating disappeared. I just touched the metal ... and it started to deoxidize and become a pure metal. I have never seen a phenomenon like that before." Of another metal sample containing nearly every element in the periodic table, Vogel stated, "Each pure element was bonded to each of the others, yet somehow retained its own identity." However, a scanning electron microscope cannot determine the atomic or molecular structure of a substance, calling into question his findings. He claimed, "Thulium exists only in minute amounts. It is exceedingly expensive, far beyond platinum, and rare to come by. Someone would have to have an extensive metallurgical knowledge even to be aware of a composition of this type", said Vogel. Vogel was not a metallurgist. At 1600 X Vogel said, "A whole new world appears in the specimen. There are structures within structures - very unusual." At 2500 X he found that the sample was, "metal, but at the same time ... it is crystal!"

Vogel put the full weight of his expertise in these summary comments: "With any technology that I know of, we could not achieve this on this planet! I could not put it together myself, as a scientist... And I think it is important that those of us who are in the scientific world sit down and do some serious study on these things instead of putting it off as people's imagination."

Meier's Meeting with Jmmanuel

As recounted in the unabridged version of Message from the Pleiades, Vol. 2, Meier was taken back in time by the extraterrestrial Asket where he met personally with Jmmanuel, alleged to be the real Jesus, and who told Meier that Meier's evolution was higher than that of Jmmanuel himself, saying, "Truly, your evolution has proceeded for 2000 years further, which fact I have not considered." . The contact with Jmmanuel lasted for four days after which Meier was returned to the present time.

World  War Three

Billy Meier has repeatedly warned of an impending Third World War beginning in November 2006, 2008, 2010, or 2011. He has also denounced the terroristic activities and vigilante behaviours of various Muslim extremist groups, which he says only foment the possibility for war. At one time, Meier suggested November, 2006 as the most likely start of World War III, then revised the date to November, 2008, a period that has also now passed. In any case, Meier states that, in an approaching year, four world leaders will die within seven days of one another, giving a clear sign that within a mere 2 years of these events the long-feared world war will indeed erupt—that is unless terrestrials finally gain mastery over their reason and change their behavior, insisting that these prophecies are all subject to change, as opposed to inevitabilities.

Business

FIGU is a non profit organisation that supports the dissemination of Billy Meier's writings, all financial records are available to the public as per Swiss law. Funds raised from FIGU core group and passive members go towards the upkeep of the Semjase Silver Star Center (SSSC) in Switzerland and towards the cost of putting the writings of Mr Meier into hardback high quality book form.

Conclusion

As stated at the beginning of this post, this case is highly controversial, it has its staunch believers and its strong detractors, so you must be your own judge. Unlike other cases this one has a great deal of information available to the public. If you feel further research is necessary you will be able to find a lot of available resources. A good starting point would be some of the links listed below.

Regardless of what you believe the Billy Meier UFO case will remain one of the most documented and contested cases on record.

If Aliens Call Earth We Now Stand A Better Chance Of Answering The Phone

What if extraterrestrial observers called, but nobody heard?

As scientists step up their search for other life in the universe, two astrophysicists are proposing a way to make sure we don’t miss the signal if extraterrestrial observers try to contact us first.

René Heller and Ralph Pudritz say the best chance for us finding a signal from beyond is to presume that extraterrestrial observers are using the same methods to search for us that we are using to search for life beyond Earth.

Here on Earth, space researchers are focusing most of their search efforts on planets and moons that are too far away to see directly. Instead, they study them by tracking their shadows as they pass in front of their own host stars.

Measuring the dimming of starlight as a planet crosses the face of its star during orbit, scientists can collect a wealth of information, even without ever seeing those worlds directly.

Using methods that allow them to estimate the average stellar illumination and temperatures on their surfaces, scientists have already identified dozens of locations where life could potentially exist.

In a paper to published in the journal Astrobiology, and available now online, Heller and Pudritz turn the telescope around to ask, what if extraterrestrial observers discover the Earth as it transits the sun?

If such observers are using the same search methods that scientists are using on Earth, the researchers propose that humanity should turn its collective ear to Earth’s “transit zone”, the thin slice of space from which our planet’s passage in front of the sun can be detected.

“It’s impossible to predict whether extraterrestrials use the same observational techniques as we do,” says Heller. “But they will have to deal with the same physical principles as we do, and Earth’s solar transits are an obvious method to detect us.”

The transit zone is rich in host stars for planetary systems, offering approximately 100,000 potential targets, each potentially orbited by habitable planets and moons, the scientists say – and that’s just the number we can see with today’s radio telescope technologies.

“If any of these planets host intelligent observers, they could have identified Earth as a habitable, even as a living world long ago and we could be receiving their broadcasts today,” write Heller and Pudritz.

Heller is a post-doctoral fellow who, while at McMaster, worked with Pudritz, a professor of Physics and Astronomy. Heller is now at the Institute for Astrophysics in Göttingen, Germany.

The question of contact with others beyond Earth is hardly hypothetical, as several projects are under way, both to send signals from Earth and to search for signals that have been sent directly or have “leaked” around obstacles, possibly travelling for thousands of years.

Heller and Pudritz propose that the Breakthrough Listen Initiative, part of the most comprehensive search for extraterrestrial life ever conducted, can maximize its chances of success by concentrating its search on Earth’s transit zone.

China Might Be The First Nation To Find Intelligent Alien Life

China May Find UFO Faster Than NASA and Russia

Russian claims to have made contact with aliens, if the Chinese have, they are keeping it quiet.
There is a new space race these days, and it doesn’t involve the moon. It seems the three superpowers of the world are racing to find proof that UFO’s exist. Known for their space achievements, NASA and Russia are usually at the forefront of these headlines. However, this time around China is leading the way, and they may just beat everyone.

CHINA DESTROYS VILLAGE FOR GIANT TELESCOPE

The communist government of China was never known for their warm hearts and caring attitude. This was further proven the other day as China kicked out 9,100 villagers to make way for a giant telescope. The purpose of this telescope is to hunt for UFO’s. One can imagine those villagers weren’t thrilled to find out about that. Although, considering the strict censorship, they probably have no idea. Continuing on the theme of Chinese secrecy, this UFO hunting telescope has an ulterior motive.

CHINESE UFO TELESCOPE HOPES TO BEAT NASA

The U.S and NASA have been a large part of the Chinese “brain drain” over the years. Flocks of intelligent men and women have left China for the U.S. With the construction of the UFO telescope, China hopes to inspire young minds to stick around. In addition, they believe the telescope will attract some of the finest minds in the world. Not just to find UFO evidence, but to study the basic facts of astronomy and cosmology. In addition to the intellectual payoff, they have a chance to beat Russia and NASA. NASA’s recent discovery of gravitational waves caused an uproar in Chinese media. The fact that NASA could be close to a major discovery like this prompted the Chinese to make a quick action.

RUSSIA CLAIMS THEY ALREADY FOUND ALIEN

Well the rest of the world clamors for alien hunting technology, Russia thinks they may have found some proof. Days ago, footage from the International Space Station showed some curious footage. The film, taken from Russia, shows a unique spacecraft floating near the ISS. Potentially a piece of debris, or some other matter, nothing is certain. Russia has already had their fair share of alien conspiracy in the past years. Now it’s just a race to prove, or disprove it.

What Happens When Contact Is Finally Made?

5 Things That Would Happen If We Ever Found Intelligent Alien Life

The search for extraterrestrial life has been in the public consciousness for decades, but what would happen if we actually succeeded? Later this month, a NASA-funded initiative called the 100-Year Starship Project (100YSS), which is dedicated to achieving interstellar travel within the next century, will hold its annual symposium, which will specifically discuss the aim of finding "Earth 2.0," including what would happen to society if we ever actually found an Earth-like planet with an alien civilization.
Opening quote
"What would happen if we could identify it [as Earth 2.0]? How does that change us?" asked Mae Jemison, a former NASA astronaut and the principal for 100YSS, in a piece for The Atlantic.

Strict protocols would come into play

In 1997, SETI infamously had a false alarm that they found intelligent alien life, which was immediately picked up by the New York Times and blown completely out of proportion. After that incident, SETI created specific protocols for astronomers who believe that they have discovered alien life, in order to ensure that the information is properly verified and disseminated to the public through controlled channels.

First, the astronomers are supposed to verify to the best of their ability that the signals are not coming from any natural phenomenon, and then have it verified independently by someone outside of SETI. They should then inform astronomers in other nations, as well as the Secretary General of the UN, so the information can be dispersed through scientific and accredited public media outlets.

Someone would ruin the surprise on Twitter

But this is the 21st century, so the astronomers admit that none of these protocols would ultimately be followed. They would try, of course, but in the age of information, it would inevitably leak before it had been verified and released in a controlled manner. Blogs, Twitter, Reddit, and every other unofficial news authority would pick up on the story way earlier than intended. SETI director Seth Shostak said of the premature 1997 NYT leak, "There is no secrecy in SETI," and there is even less privacy now.

Opening quote
"The protocols are as much fiction, in some sense, as the movie portrayals. The story will break in a very messy way," said Shostak. "I don't think there's any way to control the media."
Closing quote

It would break the Internet

And once the news broke, it would spread like wildfire. We would probably all have trouble getting on social media that day, but no one would experience more technical issues than the SETI Institute. But this isn't necessarily a bad thing, as once the information is verified, SETI very much wants it to be widely known:

"You want that information to be as widespread as possible," said former SETI director Jill Tarter. "If we were to make a discovery at the SETI institute, I don't think there's any way we could keep our website up or our phones working from the onslaught of people trying to get information."

The public reaction would closely mimic the movie Contact

Would the public be open to the discovery of alien life, or would they be fearful of an alien invasion? Paul Ziolo, a professor of psychology at the University of Liverpool and a regular presenter at the 100YSS symposiums, specifically cited the film Contact, which was partially inspired by Tartar's life and career, as a realistic portrayal of the disparate public reactions to such a discovery.

"It's a massive range from paranoia to jubilation to despair," Ziolo said. "For some people, anything from outside is going to threaten power structures. For others, it's the gods they've been waiting for."
Closing quote

We would have a reason to believe in the longevity of human civilization

While the public reactions would vary, scientists would likely be optimistic about confirmed signals from an advanced civilizations, as it would give them more hope for the future of humanity:

"If we succeed at detecting another technological civilization, that success helps tell us that on average, technological civilizations can survive for a long time," said Tartar. "The very act of success [in hearing from another planet] tells us that we can have a long future. I think that's the most amazing impact that contact would have, even if we never figure out how to interpret whatever information we receive."
