Dr. Roger Leir Dies, Claims to Have Surgically Removed Alien Implants

Alien implant proponent Roger Leir has died

Dr. Roger Leir
Roger K. Leir, D.P.M., (1934 – March 14, 2014) was a podiatric surgeon and ufologist best known as an investigator of alien implants. Leir appeared frequently on television and talk radio programs devoted to ufology.

Leir said he had removed about a dozen implants from people's bodies and claimed they were devices that "emit radio signals." Leir alleged that implants had moved by themselves during surgery as if to avoid removal. Leir said that laboratory testing of the implants implied they were of extraterrestrial origin.

His website (alienscapel) announced his death on March 15.

Dr. Leir Testified at the Citizen Hearings:

"In addition, by use of a radio wave frequency detector, we were able to detect that certain radio frequencies in the FM band, were being emitted from the object. All the surgeries we performed were documented with eyewitnesses, video and still photography.

"We find that, in all pathological reports, there is NO inflammatory reaction, there is no rejection reaction. There is nothing that we have found in material science that will produce absolutely no inflammatory reaction in the human body."
His TV credits include UFO Hunters, UFO Files and the series Watchers. He was also on the Penn & Teller Bullshit episode on alien abduction.

Leir had been suffering from a debilitating case of shingles that caused additional medical complications. In 2012, California branches of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) held special gatherings to help defer the costs of his medical bills.

Leir was the author of two books. He claimed he surgically removed many objects from people and concluded they were alien in origin – a form of nanotechnology. Further investigation by Joe Nickell (in his book Real Life X-Files) concluded that there was no good evidence these implants were anything otherworldly, but natural growths or accidental insertion of stray objects like glass shards. Dr. Leir was lauded in UFO circles but was considered a crank promoting the idea of alien implantation devices and tracking of humans.

A film is currently in production that documents the work of the late Dr. Roger Leir.

This feature-length film, currently titled Alien Scalpel, explores Dr. Leir’s work researching mysterious foreign objects removed from people claiming to be victims of alien abductions.
